The removal of waterborne pathogens in stormwater runoff is an increasing global priority. In response, A S Filtration™ has developed an innovative patent-pending antimicrobial filtration technology designed to remove pathogens in waters derived from point and non-point sources. Pathex® filter media is unique since it destroys pathogens on contact, does not rely on physical trapping, leaves no chemical or environmental residue, and requires no external energy source or moving parts. The filter media is environmentally neutral and safe to handle.
Comprehensive independent laboratory tests and field demonstrations support the effectiveness of Pathex®. Laboratory challenges against waterborne Escherichia coli (E. coli), Legionella , Enterococci, Fecal Coliform, Total Aerobic Bacteria, Sulfate Reducing Bacteria and Iron Fixing Bacteria support that Pathex® exhibits a consistently high level of performance. Both laboratory investigations and field verification tests clearly demonstrate that Pathex® can provide for the effective reduction of waterborne pathogens in association with a wide variety of stormwater BMPs and water quality compliance programs. Laboratory analyses by NSF further confirms that Pathex® will not leach and is non-toxic. A S Filtration™'s Pathex® is certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 61.
Proven long-term performance in field and laboratory tests.
Nano-level filtration technology physically destroys bacteria at high loading rates.
Non-toxic, non-leaching and environmentally safe.
Does not allow for mutation to resist treatment.
Pathex® is a unique, patent-pending technology where an EPA-registered antimicrobial agent is applied to a silica-based filter media to create an antimicrobial integrated system. Pathex® is effective against a broad spectrum of gram positive and negative bacteria that can be commonly found in stormwater runoff. The Pathex® filter media does not rely on physical trapping thereby allowing the destroyed pathogens to easily pass through the filter media without clogging.
Laboratory analysis by NSF supports that Pathex® will not leach and is non-toxic. This means that treatment using Pathex® leaves no chemical or environmental residue and the media is safe to handle. No external energy source is needed and there are no moving parts. Since Pathex® effectively inhibits further growth of microorganisms on the media itself, the treatment process does not allow for the mutation of microorganisms to occur over time. Pathex® does not rely on a leaching mode of action, contains no heavy metals such as tin, lead, mercury or silver; and, does not contain formaldehyde. The use of these slow leaching agents can result in toxic effluent waters. Unlike disinfectants, sanitizers, bleaches or liquid biocides which often provide short term treatment, Pathex® antimicrobial treatment provides for long term performance since it is neither consumed nor dissipates, and does not produce toxic effluent conditions.
